Below are some frequently asked questions by our customers. If you have other questions, please send it to bookings@underdogpets.com
When you arrive for your appointment we will greet you and your pet and we will ask you to complete a short registration form. You can fill it out ahead of time here.
This includes your contact details, your pet’s history, veterinarian details, and health and behaviour information. We will then examine your pet and discuss it’s grooming requirements with you. Once grooming needs have been decided on we will inform you of the price and give you a pick up time.
This all depends on the individual pet as coat, condition, age, temperament, breed and style are all relevant factors. When we meet your pet we can discuss any relevant issues as each client is different. Our main concern is the welfare of your pet whilst in our care and to make it an enjoyable experience for both them and us. We try to limit the time to two hours for small dogs and three hours for larger breeds. We do not allow dogs to be in our salon all day. We are not insured nor have time or resources to take them out for a walk.
Whilst we understand that sometimes appointments have to be cancelled due to an emergency, we ask that you give us at least 24 hours notice where possible, prior to appointment cancellation, as we have a waiting list of clients that can be filled with another dog in need of a groom. On the occasion that you have missed your appointment we have been also let down by an empty appointment slot and as a small business this has a negative impact on us financially. We reserve the right to charge a fee of £15 for appointments missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours notice payable prior to any future booking. Arriving 30 minutes or more late for appointments will in most cases require re-scheduling and a missed appointment fee of £15 will apply.
We do not sedate any animals on these premises under any situation. Only a Veterinarian can prescribe any necessary drugs for your pet. We sometimes have to recommend clients to seek veterinary advice if we cannot groom a difficult dog for their safety. We also cannot administer drugs for you as our insurance does not allow it. Please ask your vet for advice. Sedated animals require special care and may be refused service if not arranged for prior to appointment.
We very seldom find it necessary to muzzle a dog and much prefer to build up a trust between Dog and Groomer. However, dogs that show signs of aggression or biting/licking at the clippers & or scissors will be muzzled for both their safety and ours.
Please let us know within 24 hours. We are happy to go over the haircut for you at a time that suits on the same day or the next day or two. (We can’t fix a haircut more than three days later unless it’s just the face as the dog will not be as clean and the condition of the coat could have changed.) Dogs will not be re-bathed.
Of course. We always encourage owners to bring a few treats to reward their dog. We do not give treats to the dogs unless given to us by the owner.
This is not usually a good idea as to get the full co-operation of the dogs we must have their undivided attention. Most dogs behave much better without their owners there to distract them. We will be happy to show you around our shop. Customers are welcome to look at the grooming salon, however, we cannot allow customers into the grooming room for health and safety purposes. If any difficulty with a dog arises the owner will be called at once.
We very seldom require a dog to be put in a cage. For safety reasons and to comply with the Animal Welfare Act we cannot let the dogs run loose whilst we are working. If an owner is running late and our grooming room does not permit the space for a dog to be left to sit then a dog will be caged awaiting collection. This will be done for the health and safety of the dog. All of our cages are spacious and have plenty of room for even large and giant breeds and provide a full view of whats going on in the grooming salon. Most of the time they are in our care we are working with them.
We only use top quality professional dog shampoos. With many types to choose from we are sure to have a shampoo suited to your dogs coat type. We most commonly use sensitive shampoos to prevent skin irritation. We also have a wonderful range of shampoo upgrades to choose from such as Oatmeal Cleanser, Manuka Honey, Luxury Conditioner, Flea Treatment & Blueberry Facial.
Yes. Please let us know about the instructions for the medicated shampoo for us to follow. You can bring any shampoo you would like us to use.
No. At this moment in time we do not.
Once your puppy has completed its vaccinations it can start making regular visits for grooming. There are a lot of new experiences for your puppy to discover and the younger they start the easier it is for them. We have an Introductory puppy groom price for £26.
Charges will vary dependent on the breed of dog, the specified style & the condition of their coat.
When you call for an appointment we can give you a base price, which is set on a dog that conforms to the following:
- Average Size/Coat
- Groomed Regularly
- Co-operative
Additional charges may apply for:
- Non-Standard Breed Size and/or Coat
- Poorly Maintained / Matted Coats
- Trimming beyond Standard for Breed
- Non Co-operative Behaviour
- Difficult / Aggressive Behaviour
Dogs that have fleas will be washed with a flea shampoo that will kill all fleas on the dog. We cannot take any chances that other pets in our care will get fleas. There is an extra fee for this. We will also give you advice and recommendations to prevent and control further problems. We also take measures to ensure that our environment is flea free, however, in any facility where dogs are present there is a higher risk of fleas being found.
Yes we do, for many breeds such as Border Terriers, Spaniels, Wired Haired Daschunds, German Pointers. Please contact us if you would like more information.
The largest dogs we groom are St. Bernards, Bernese Mountain Dogs, German Shepherds, Akitas and Rottweilers.
Yes, we do. We have a great range of pet supplies on our website for you to browse. We also stock everyday doggie items such as collars, leads, harnesses, muzzles, combs, brushes, poo bags and lots more. No you don't. This service is a available as a walk-in service but please call first to ensure that a member of staff is available. Nail clipping is available from £10 and only takes a few minutes. You may have to wait if we are finishing off a groom and a customer is waiting.
It is no problem to have a dog bathed only. This is our Bath and Dry service which we would recommend in-between groom baths for certain breeds to keep the coat in tip top condition and to limit matting. We can also trim eyes, feet and face only. There is a charge for these services and an appointment is necessary.
Please let us know when booking your appointment. If necessary we may be able to schedule an appointment for a time that we do not have other dogs in the shop. We do not allow dogs to run loose together for the safety of all pets in our care.
We are always happy to try to work with nervous dogs. We like these dogs to come to the same groomer each visit to build up a relationship with that person. Most dogs are groomed straight through, allowing them to be picked up within a few hours as opposed to being left all day.
No. We are a grooming service only.
